Name of your OLSC / Nombre de su OLSC

Oman Reds. We were called the Muscat Reds when we first started the fan club but the name was changed last season to reflect that the OLSC now represents the whole of Oman and not just the capital city Muscat.

Tell us about your OLSC….how did you get started? / Cuéntanos sobre su OLSC … ¿Cómo comenzó todo?

The Muscat Reds began in 2011, when Nabs Al Busaidi the founder of the OLSC was looking for a sports bar/venue to watch his favourite team. Back then, there were no dedicated sports bars, so he went to the Grand Hyatt Muscat in the hope of watching the LFC game. The hotel was showing a different match and could only screen one game at a time. Nabs expressed his disappointment rather loudly. The gentleman sitting next to Nabs, asked him what was wrong, and they had a short conversation about the lack of a sports bar in Oman. It turned out that the gentleman was the General Manager of the hotel, and within a year, the Habana Sports Bar was launched and in March 2012, in collaboration with Standard Chartered Bank, the main sponsors of LFC, and LFC themselves, a dedicated fan zone for Liverpool FC fans, The Anfield Lounge was launched inside the same bar.

Los Muscat Reds se crearon en 2011, cuando Nabs Al Busaidi, el fundador de la OLSC, estaba buscando un bar / local deportivo para ver a su equipo favorito. En aquel entonces, no había bares expresamente dedicados a los deportes, por lo que fue al Grand Hyatt Muscat con la esperanza de ver el partido del LFC. El hotel emitía otro partido diferente y

no había otra opción. Nabs expresó su decepción de un modo bastante contundente. El caballero sentado al lado de Nabs, le preguntó qué pasaba, y tuvieron una breve conversación sobre la falta de un bar dedicado a los deportes en Omán. Resultó que el señor era el Gerente General del hotel, y un año después, se inauguró Habana Sports Bar y en marzo de 2012, en colaboración con Standard Chartered Bank, los principales patrocinadores de LFC, y el propio LFC, se creó una zona para los hinchas del Liverpool FC, “The Anfield Lounge” dentro del mismo bar.

 

How many members do you have now, and where do you meet? / ¿Cuántos miembros sois ahora y dónde os reunís?

It all started with just 2 friends meeting at a private house to watch the games, but as of last month, we now have over 300 Members. We organize two matchday venues every game. One at the Habana Sports Bar at the Grand Hyatt Muscat for the English speaking members and the other at 4-3-3 Cafe for our Arabic speaking members.

Todo comenzó con tan solo 2 amigos reunidos en una casa privada para ver los partidos, pero a partir del mes pasado, ahora tenemos más de 300 miembros. Tenemos dos locales diferentes durante cada partido. Uno en el Habana Sports Bar en el Grand Hyatt Muscat para los miembros de habla inglesa y el otro en el 4-3-3 Café para nuestros miembros de habla árabe.

 

Apart from watching the Mighty Reds, do you do anything else together? / Además de ver a los Mighty Reds, ¿hacéis algo más juntos?

We organize annual dinners and Ramadan Iftars for our members, and we have had speakers dinners where ex players come to talk to us (Gary McAllister, Jason McAteer etc) and we are looking at starting up a 5 a side team and supporting various CSR initiatives in the Sultanate.

Organizamos cenas anuales y Ramadán Iftars para nuestro miembros (Es la comida nocturna con la que se rompe el ayuno diario durante el mes islámico del Ramadán. Se hace de manera comunitaria), y hemos tenido cenas con conferenciantes, ex jugadores vienen a hablar con nosotros (Gary McAllister, Jason McAteer, etc.) y estamos intentando crear un equipo de fútbol a 5 (futbito) y apoyar varias iniciativas de RSE en el Sultanato.

 

What has been a highlight for your OLSC? / ¿Qué ha sido lo más destacado hasta ahora en vuestra OLSC?

It would have to be back in 2013, when some of our members travelled to Liverpool and played on the pitch at Anfield against other international Official Liverpool FC Supporters Clubs. 

Recuerdo en 2013, cuando algunos de nuestros miembros viajaron a Liverpool y jugaron en Anfield contra otros clubes internacionales de aficionados del Liverpool FC.

 

Anything else interesting we should know about your Supporters Club? / ¿Hay algo interesante que debiéramos saber sobre vuestro club de seguidores? 

The Oman Reds was actually the first official supporters club in the Sultanate and the inspiration that led to supporters of other football clubs starting their official supporters clubs in Oman too. Another interesting fact is that our founder, Nabs, also set up Qatar OLSC, and helped in the formation of Bahrain OLSC and Kenya OLSC. LFC also contacted him for advice when launching the official Liverpool FC Arabic website and social media pages for the club.

Los Omán Reds fueron el primer club oficial de seguidores en el Sultanato y sirvieron de inspiración para que seguidores de otros clubes de fútbol abrieran sus peñas oficiales en Omán también. Otro hecho interesante es que, nuestro fundador, Nabs, también creo Qatar OLSC, y ayudó en la creación y desarrollo de Bahréin OLSC y Kenia OLSC. El LFC también contactó con él para pedirle consejo cuando lanzó el sitio web oficial del Liverpool FC Arabic y las páginas de redes sociales para el club.

 

A question from OLSC Kansas City: if you could repeat any Liverpool game in your home city, which would it be? / Una pregunta de OLSC Kansas City: si pudieras repetir cualquier partido de Liverpool en tu ciudad de origen, ¿cuál sería?

There are so many games to pick from. If we had to narrow it down to 3 games: the Champions League final in Istanbul would definitely be one of them, the 4-3 Europa League quarter final win vs Borussia Dortmund from 2016 is another.

(Nabs adds: “But beating Norwich 5-4 on my birthday in 2016 is going to be my slightly unusual selection!”).

 ¡Hay tantos partidos para elegir! Si tuviéramos que reducirlo a 3: La final de la Liga de Campeones en Estambul sería una de ellas sin duda, la victoria en cuartos de final de la Europa League 4-3 frente al Borussia Dortmund en 2016 es otra.

(Nabs añade “Pero ¡vencer a Norwich 5-4, el día de mi cumpleaños en 2016, esa es mi elección personal!”)

 

How are you feeling about the new season? / ¿Cuál es tu impresión cara a la nueva temporada?

Extremely optimistic. This is the best squad we have had since the 2008/09 season or maybe since we last won the league. There is a special feeling about this season. I think most of us have been firmly converted by Klopp into believers!

Extremadamente optimista. Este es el mejor equipo que hemos tenido desde la temporada 2008/09 o quizás desde que se ganó la última liga. Hay una sensación especial esta temporada. ¡Creo que la mayoría de nosotros nos hemos convertido, gracias a Klopp, en creyentes!

 

One other question: what would you like to know about other OLSC? And how would you answer that question yourself? / Otra pregunta: ¿qué le gustaría saber sobre otros OLSC? ¿Y cómo responderías esa pregunta tú mismo?

What we would like to know about other OLSC is ‘How does being part of the OLSC in your city/country make you feel?’ We would answer that ‘Family’ is the best word to describe the OLSC. You share the best of times and the worst of times together through the love of Liverpool FC and that is hard to replicate in any other setting. Many of us are fans of other sports but nothing unites us more than the Mighty Reds and the members really miss each other during the summer break!

 Lo que nos gustaría saber sobre otros OLSC es ‘¿Cómo te sientes al formar parte del OLSC en tu ciudad / país?’  Responderíamos que ‘Familia’ es la palabra que describe nuestro OLSC. Compartes los mejores momentos y los peores juntos gracias al amor por el Liverpool FC y eso es difícil de imaginar en cualquier otro entorno. Muchos de nosotros somos fans de otros deportes, pero nada nos une más que los Mighty Reds, y los miembros realmente se echan de menos durante las vacaciones de verano.
