- Hoffenheim finished 4th in the Bundesliga last season, after finishing 15th the year before – what was the key to their improved position?

The key to their success was two men, Alexander Rosen and Julian Nagelsmann. The Sporting Director and head coach.
With an astute group of signings such as Sandro Wagner, Kerem Demirbay and Kevin Vogt for very cheap, Hoffenheim improved their squad dramatically with players that were scouted and signed specifically to fit Nagelsmann’s system.

Nagelsmann, though, was the main factor. He brought the players together as a team and trained them to a specific philosophy, as shown above. He was voted as Germany’s Coach of the Year last season and is only 30-years-old. It was his first season as a professional head coach in the Bundesliga.

The first two men were key to everything good with Hoffenheim last season. Wagner scored, I believe, 12 goals, and Demirbay contributed to over 15 in total. Gnabry, on loan from Bayern, had a fantastic period with Bremen last season scoring a load of goals.
They lost two incredibly important players over the summer in Niklas Süle and Sebastian Rudy, but they have replaced them well and should not feel too big of a hole in the team without them.

The reaction in Germany has been filled with excitement, although those I have spoken with seem to be favouring Liverpool over two legs.
I agree that Liverpool will have an incredibly tough time on their hands, and I actually think that Hoffenheim have a great chance to progress. Although Klopp will not be fooled by any element of surprise. He still watched a lot of Bundesliga last season and will be well-prepared on Nagelsmann.

- What is the Hoffenheim support base like? What’s it like as a place to visit?

Hoffenheim’s support base is incredibly small. The club is owned, founded and was ultimately created by a football loving billionaire named Dietmar Hopp. The club is based in a small village in Germany called Sinsheim, and so without being in a city, it has been difficult for the club to gain real fandom since their arrival in the Bundesliga.
I have not been there and so do not know what it is like to visit, but it is just outside of Stuttgart, which I presume is the city that people will be travelling in to.

I think that it will be two home wins for either side and will go down to the away goals that a team may be able to score.
I’m going to say that Hoffenheim will sneak it and progress on away goals.
