Tell us about your OLSC….how did you get started? / Cuéntanos sobre su OLSC … ¿Cómo comenzó todo?

When I moved back to Glasgow as a young adult, I moved to a flat that didn’t have Sky TV available, not that I’ve ever been one to watch the match at home, but needs must. The flat was in Glasgow City Centre so there were plenty of pubs available, but I found a sports bar which had a decent atmosphere and looked the part. Being a Scouser, a particularly vocal one some might say, it didn’t take long during that first match for a Glaswegian Red to chat to me. The next week, an Irish Red living in Glasgow joined us, and then another, and another, and it snowballed from there!

How many members do you have now, and where do you meet? / ¿Cuántos miembros sois ahora y dónde os reunís?

At present we have over 80 paid up members, plenty more followers on social media and over 250 subscribers to our mailing list.

We have been with our current venue, The Record Factory in Glasgow’s West End, for 3 seasons full time now, they look after us well and we return the favour. Primarily a music venue, they recognise we bring them a revenue stream out with their usual clientele and at times they may not be particularly busy with live bands etc, and on the same level we don’t get any supporters of other clubs in there either, and the venue has been used for multiple events such as 5TimesCo and other player events. It’s a mutually beneficial scenario, and we pack the place quite regularly.

Llevamos en nuestra sede actual, The Record Factory en el West End de Glasgow, las últimas 3 temporadas completas, nos cuidan bien y les devolvemos el buen trato. Principalmente es un lugar para tocar música en directo, pero reconocen que les brindamos unos ingresos que se suman al de su clientela habitual y, en ocasiones, puede que no estén particularmente ocupados con bandas en directo, etc., y de igual manera tampoco contamos con partidarios de otros clubes. El bar se ha utilizado para múltiples eventos como 5TimesCo y otros eventos de jugadores. Es un acuerdo que nos beneficia a ambas partes, y llenamos el lugar con bastante frecuencia.

Apart from watching the Mighty Reds, do you do anything else together? / Además de ver a los Mighty Reds, ¿hacéis algo más juntos?

The Glasgow Reds meet for every single match at The Record Factory, but we also operate a car share facility for every game for Season Ticket holders and Members, and we travel to as many games as possible. Our group has a varied dynamic of men, women and children of all age and backgrounds, and we have had members from every far-flung corner of the world at some point, lots of whom become friends and socialise together. Personally, some of my best friends have been found via this club, and that’s a proud thing for me to say. We’ve built an excellent community north of the border.

Historically, we raise money for charities on a regular basis including the LFC Foundation, the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, Glasgow/Liverpool Foodbanks and a lot of personal initiatives from our own members. On a sporting theme, we have played football of all varieties from 5-a-side to full 11-a-side games in leagues and for charity, and we are previous winners of the International OLSC tournament at Anfield and The Academy.

Los Glasgow Reds nos reunimos para cada partido en The Record Factory, pero también organizamos viajes compartidos en coche para cada partido para aquellos que tienen season tickets y membership, vamos a todos los partidos que nos sea posible. Nuestro grupo tiene una composición muy variada de hombres, mujeres y niños de todas las edades y orígenes, y hemos tenido miembros de los rincones más remotos del mundo en algún momento, muchos de los cuales se hacen amigos y socializan juntos. Personalmente, algunos de mis mejores amigos los he encontrado a través de este club, y eso es algo de lo que me siento orgulloso. Hemos construido una excelente comunidad al norte de la frontera.

What has been a highlight for your OLSC? / ¿Qué ha sido lo más destacado hasta ahora en vuestra OLSC?

After many years of trying, and some staffing changes at LFC, we were finally (and deservedly) affiliated to the club, which was probably our proudest moment after all our hard work. Other highlights have been attending the Black-Tie events at Anfield, playing on the Anfield pitch and meeting players past and present, all privileges of being an OLSC.

Después de muchos años de intentarlo, y algunos cambios de personal en LFC, finalmente nos afiliamos oficialmente (y nos lo merecimos) al club, probablemente fue nuestro momento de mayor orgullo después de todo nuestro arduo trabajo. Otros momentos destacados han sido asistir a los eventos de Black-Tie en Anfield, jugar en Anfield y reunirse con jugadores del pasado y del presente, todos los privilegios que tiene ser un OLSC.

Anything else interesting we should know about your Supporters Club? / ¿Hay algo interesante que debiéramos saber sobre vuestro club de seguidores? 

We’ve built a great relationship with the club and do everything we can to help out on various initiatives in the past. We go above and beyond for associated charities and always try to give something back, small gestures in the grand scheme of things, given all of the benefits we get being an OLSC. We’ve been described as the prototype OLSC, a great compliment given all of our hard work.

Hemos establecido una excelente relación con el club y hacemos todo lo posible para ayudar en varias iniciativas. A question from OLSC Kansas City: if you could repeat any Liverpool game in your home city, which would it be?

It would have to be the Hillsborough Memorial Match between Glasgow Celtic and Liverpool in 1989, the first match played following the disaster itself. We recreated the match between fan groups a few years back in aid of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, but to recreate that experience, with all of that emotion would be something special.

In Glasgow at the moment, it’s is very divided which side of the Old Firm that Liverpool are connected to. We can confirm that we have a split of Reds who also follow either the Hoops (Celtic) and Teddy Bears (Rangers). With Steven Gerrard now Gaffer at Ibrox, so while a lot of us have started paying attention, we don’t pick sides, and we’ll always appreciate Celtic for that match.

Tendría que ser el Hillsborough Memorial Match entre el Celtic de Glasgow y el Liverpool en 1989, el primer partido jugado después del desastre. One other question: what would you like to know about other OLSC? And how would you answer that question yourself?

Our answer: this season has gone really well so far, somewhat exceeding expectations, but what a thrill ride it has been. Major positives being Allison, Van Dijk and Glasgow’s own Andy Robbo really making their places their own and shoring up our defence, hopefully for years to come. Injuries have hampered us but there’s also some disappointing performances in there too from individuals, and a crazy decision from the gaffer in the 6 pointer at Man City to let them dictate the game at a time we were blowing everyone away, but it’s been a great experience so far and we’re keeping everything crossed for the league and also for the Champions League too.

Man City and Liverpool have both shown what two games without a win can do to your momentum, but we’re embracing every game as fans and trying to enjoy every minute. Yeah, there’s pressure and we can feel it in the stadium and even in the pub, but where better than to be than surrounded by fellow Reds to share the ups and downs, whatever the outcome may be on May 12th.

Nuestra respuesta: esta temporada ha ido muy buena hasta ahora superando las expectativas, ha sido una experiencia emocionante. Los aspectos positivos principales son el hecho de que Allison, Van Dijk y el propio Andy Robbo de Glasgow, realmente se han consolidado en su puesto y apuntalan nuestra defensa, y con suerte valdrá para los próximos años. Las lesiones nos han limitado, pero también había algunas actuaciones decepcionantes por parte de individuos, y esa decisión loca del mister con respecto a los 6 puntos en Man City para permitirles dictar el día en un momento que estuvimos ganado todo, pero ha sido una gran experiencia. Experiencia hasta ahora, eso sí, que estamos manteniéndonos en la liga y también en la Liga de Campeones.

 Tanto Man City como Liverpool han demostrado lo que dos partidos sin ganar pueden suponer en tu carrera hacia el título, pero estamos afrontando cada partido como hinchas y tratando de disfrutar cada minuto. Sí, hay presión, podemos sentirlo en el estadio e incluso en el pub, pero es mejor estar rodeado de otros Reds compartiendo los altibajos, sea cual sea el resultado el 12 de mayo.
