¿De dónde eres? / Where are you from?

Nacido en el Reino Unido de padres emigrantes españoles, en Wimbledon, Londres; he vivido 27 años en Madrid, casado con Debra y con dos hijos nacidos en Madrid, Alex (un Madrid Red) y Sofia

Born in UK originally from Spanish immigrant parents, from Wimbledon London to be specific; I have lived 27 years in Madrid, married to Debra with two Madrid-born kids Alex (a Madrid Red) and Sofia

 

 ¿Por qué eres del Liverpool? / Why are you a Liverpool fan?

Mi primer equipo con 7 añitos fue el Liverpool, recuerdo perfectamente mi padre (un gran fan de Shankly) sentarme enfrente de un televisor en blanco y negro a ver la FA Cup final de 1974 contra el Newcastle…. Mi primer partido en directo y entero – desde ese momento quiera ser Kevin Keegan y empece a adorar los Reds.

Después de unos años, empecé a seguir mi equipo local de barrio de Londres, el Wimbledon (entonces en la 4a división inglesa) porque Liverpool estaba muy lejos y mi padre no me dejaba viajar… irónicamente Wimbledon tuvo una secuencia de ascensos de fantasía y acabo en 1ª división jugando contra mi querido Liverpool… y en 1988 en la FA Cup Final (no hablaremos de ese resultado!).

My first team at the age of 7 was Liverpool, I vividly remember my Dad (who was a big Shankly fan) sitting me down to watch the 1974 FA Cup Final versus Newcastle in front a little black and white tv… it was my first live and full game – from that moment on I wanted to be Kevin Keegan and adore the Reds.

Later I followed my local team Wimbledon (then in the 4th Division) as Liverpool was so far away and my Dad wouldn’t let me travel… ironically Wimbledon had a fantasy promotion ride and ended up playing my beloved Liverpool in the 1st Division… and  in the1988 FA Cup Final (we won’t talk about that result!).

¿Por qué te gusta venir a Triskel? ¿Por qué Madrid Reds? / Why do you like to come to Triskel? Why the Madrid Reds?

Siempre ha sido el punto de encuentro, incluso antes de ser official branch, lo encontré buscando en la web y me presente con mi hijo Alex (entonces de 7 añitos) a ver un partido… no recuerdo contra quien… lo que si recuerdo es que cantamos el YNWA al final… lo cual mi hijo recuerda de manera importante y con mucho cariño.

El branch (la peña) ha evolucionado tanto en estos últimos años, gracias al trabajo de algunos voluntarios –  no ha dejado de crecer y es muy diverso a nivel de miembros- españoles, ingleses, irlandeses, miembros de países de todo el mundo e incluso algun turista de fin de semana en Madrid…todos son bienvenidos …eso sí, si tu religión deportiva es el Liverpool FC, “it means more” (esto significa más)…como dicen algunos.

It has always been the meeting point, even before it became an official branch, I found it on the internet and I turned up one day for a match, can’t remember who we were playing… I do remember we sang YNWA at the end… and my son remembers this important moment with much love.

The branch has evolved so much over the years thanks to the hard volunteer work of a few – it has grown and grown and is diverse in nature with Spanish members, expat Irish/UK members, members from around the world and the occasional weekend Madrid tourist tripper… all are welcome, as long as your sporting religion is Liverpool FC, “it means more”…as they say.
