• 3 games in….how are you feeling about the start of your season?
• Tres partidos ya jugados…. ¿Cuáles son tus impresiones sobre el inicio de vuestra temporada?

Tom Fox (TF): On paper, 7 points from a possible 9 represents a decent start. On the pitch, however, we still can’t seem to shift the same deficiencies that plagued us last season, namely our wastefulness in front in goal and our ability to concede despite the opposition having very few efforts on goal.

The high volume of clear cut chances that we still seem to squander is a massive concern. For all the praise that is lavished on Aguero and Silva, their finishing really does need to be sharper.

Everton’s goal against us at the ‘Blue Camp’ came from their only real venture into our half. At least Pep’s speaks openly about these problems so hopefully they are working on this on the training pitch and we will start to see an improvement come Saturday! Axing Claudio Bravo to the bench should help us.

A quick mention to some awful officiating that has already seen us suffer 2 red cards for Walker and Sterling, both extremely harsh decisions.

En principio, 7 puntos de 9 se puede considerar un comienzo decente. Un apunte rápido sobre unas decisiones que nos ha penalizado mucho, las dos tarjetas rojas a Walker y Sterling, ambas decisiones fueron extremadamente rigurosas.

 

Michael Harney (MH):  Happy to be sat in the top 4 but its early days yet. I feel City have dominated recent games but struggled to finish teams off, I’m liking the interplay with De-Bruyne, Silva and Bernardo. I look forward to seeing more from the new signing.

Feliz de estar en el top 4, pero aún es pronto. Creo que el City ha dominado los últimos partidos pero no acabó de cerrarlos, me gusta cómo combinan De-Bruyne, Silva y Bernardo. Espero ver más de los nuevos fichajes.

 

• The transfer window is now shut. How do you think Man City did?
• El periodo de fichajes está cerrado. ¿Cómo crees que lo hizo el Man City?

 

TF: Overall, very happy. Clearly, it is easier to do high quality business with the Sheikh’s cheque book in hand. The directors can also be satisfied with generating receipts of £100 million plus for the dead wood (think Bony) that we have shifted out of the door.

Mendy and Walker are perfect signings for Pep’s ‘total football’ philosophy where they are effectively stationed as wingers. Danilo looks like a decent backup option too. In today’s market, Bernado Silva looks a snip at £43 million. If we could only find another 9 Silva’s, we would be unstoppable!

Keep an eye out for Ederson’s monster kicks this season, definitely going to rack up some fantasy points for assists! I also see Gundagan and Jesus as 2 new signings for the season given that both had less than 3 months action last time out. Gundagan will help give the team the control Pep demands.

Signing Alexis Sanchez would have been the icing on the cake but it appears as though Arsenal bottled it at the last minute.

Despite all of this, any prolonged lay-off for Vinny Kompany still leaves us massively handicapped at the back. Signing Jonny Evans would have helped. Instead, our back up options include an erratic Mangala and an untried teenager in Tosin Adarabioyo. Teams will exploit this weakness.

En general, estamos muy contentos. Es evidente que es más fácil hacer negocios de alta calidad con la chequera del Sheikh a mano. Los directores también pueden estar satisfechos con las ganancias de £ 100 millones por jugadores ya sin sitio en el equipo (Bony, por ejemplo) que hemos traspasado.

Mendy y Walker son fichajes perfectos para la filosofía de “fútbol total” de Pep y cubren muy eficazmente las alas (carrileros). Danilo parece una buena opción para la defensa. En el mercado actual, Bernardo Silva es una ganga por £ 43 millones. Si pudiéramos encontrar a otros 9 como Silva, ¡seríamos imparables!

Fijaros en los tiros alucinantes de Ederson durante esta temporada, ¡sin duda va a sumar mucha fantasía con sus asistencias! También veo a Gundogan y Jesús como dos nuevos fichajes para la temporada, dado que ambos tuvieron menos de tres meses para jugar en la pasada campaña. Gundogan ayudará a dar al equipo el control del partido que demanda Pep.

Firmar a Alexis Sánchez hubiera sido la guinda del pastel, pero parece que Arsenal impidió el fichaje en el último minuto.

A pesar de todo esto, tener que prescindir de Vinny Kompany nos debilita muchísimo en defensa. La firma de Jonny Evans hubiera ayudado. En cambio, nuestras opciones de apoyo atrás incluyen un Mangala errático y un adolescente no rodado como Tosin Adarabioyo. Los equipos contrarios se aprovecharán de esta debilidad.

MH: Glad to have Ederson between the sticks as there were shaky moments with Bravo last season. Pep has strengthened the defence with most of his signings being defenders and let’s hope Mendy is worth £49m. With Kompany’s injuries I feel this has been a wise buying spree.

Me alegro de tener a Ederson bajo palos, ya que hubo mucha inseguridad con Bravo la temporada pasada. Pep ha fortalecido la defensa con la mayoría de sus fichajes y esperemos que haya valido la pena pagar por Mendy £ 49m. Con las lesiones de Kompany sé que ha sido una compra muy sabia.

 

• Pep’s second season…what are you expecting of him and his style this season?
• Es la segunda temporada de Pep… ¿qué esperas de él y su estilo esta temporada?

 

TF: Given his track record, I am expecting big things. He has had a year to ease himself into the English game but there really can be no excuses this season if we don’t put a title challenge this year.

Some of the football we played at times last season was breathtaking.

Throw Bernado Silva, Walker and Mendy into the mix and this year could be something special! Despite all the Arsenal lovers, we clearly play the most exciting brand of football in the league when everything clicks.

Dado su historial, espero grandes cosas. Ha tenido un año para adaptarse al fútbol inglés, pero realmente no habrá excusas esta temporada si no superamos el desafío de conseguir el título.

Hubo momentos de fútbol de gran calidad durante la temporada pasada. ¡Tener sobre el campo este año a Bernardo Silva, Walker y Mendy puede dar como resultado algo muy especial! A pesar de lo que digan los seguidores del Arsenal, claramente nosotros practicamos el mejor futbol de la Premier cuando todo hace clic.

 

MH: I feel this season Pep will carry on playing his own style of attacking football. With a season to settle in, I am expecting this to be his season and take the league. With his phenomenal striking power, it should be goals galore.

Creo que esta temporada Pep seguirá jugando su propio estilo de fútbol ofensivo. Con una temporada para asentarse, espero que esta sea su temporada y gane la liga. Con su gran potencial en el ataque, debemos ver goles en abundancia.

 

• City vs Liverpool this weekend, a big game in recent years – how do you think it will go?

TF: Klopp seems to have the number on Pep, not only last season but also when they met in Germany. Last season’s corresponding fixture at the Etihad could have ended 8-8 and I expect something similar this weekend.

Clearly, the loss of Kompany, as reported in today’s press will be a massive blow to keeping quiet your fluid attacking trident of Mane, Salah and Firmino. Hopefully, however, our midfield will control the ball thus negating your threat. Agüero and Jesus upfront too should be too much for your porous central defence.

As for prediction? The Scousers to be ‘devoed’ come 2.30pm on Saturday after City edge it 3-2

Klopp parece tener cogido el tranquillo a Pep, no sólo la temporada pasada, sino también cuando se conocieron en Alemania. El partido de la temporada pasada en el Etihad podría haber terminado 8-8 y espero algo similar este fin de semana.

Claramente, la pérdida de Kompany, como informó la prensa de hoy, es un duro golpe para nuestra tranquilidad frente al tridente de Mane, Salah y Firmino. Con suerte, sin embargo, nuestro mediocampo controlará la pelota anulando así su amenaza. Mientras Agüero y Jesús delante, deben ocasionar muchos problemas a una defensa con tantos huecos en la zona central.

¿Mi pronóstico? Los Scousers se sentirán devastados y decepcionados a eso de las 2.30pm del sábado después de la victoria del City 3-2

 

MH: Playing the best team in the PL at counter attack, I expect goals on both sides. I predict a closely contested game but I feel Agüero, who is on course for making Blue history and PL history, to be on the score sheet. 2-1 City.

Jugando contra el mejor equipo de la PL al contraataque, espero goles de ambos lados. Preveo un partido muy disputado, pero creo que Agüero, que está en camino de hacer historia skyblue e historia en la PL, marque. 2-1 para el City.

 

• And finally… where do you expect to finish in the league this season? And how do you think Liverpool will get on?
• Y finalmente… ¿En qué posición esperas terminar en la liga esta temporada? ¿Y cómo piensas que acabará el Liverpool?

 

TF: I expect the top 3 to be made up of City, Chelsea and Utd, hopefully in that order. Given the squad at his disposal, Pep really has little excuse for not mounting a strong title challenge.

As for Liverpool? I see you finishing 4th again. One off games, you are a match for anyone, but with your European commitments this season, your squad does not seem strong enough to cope with Klopp’s high press, high intensity style of football.

City till I Die x

Espero que los 3 primeros de la clasificación sean City, Chelsea y Utd, y esperemos que en ese orden. Con el equipo que han puesto a su disposición, Pep realmente tiene pocas excusas para no ganar el título.

En cuanto a Liverpool. Os veo terminando cuartos de nuevo. Partido a partido, podéis ganar a cualquiera, pero con tantos compromisos europeos esta temporada, vuestro equipo no parece lo suficientemente fuerte como para hacer frente a la alta presión de Klopp y ese estilo suyo de fútbol de alta intensidad.

¡Citizen hasta la muerte!

MH: I feel City are just settling into their team and that once completely gelled they shall be unstoppable. I feel they could finish champions. Liverpool, I feel would certainly finish top 6 but it’s going to be a fiercely fought season between the two Manchester teams, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool
